60 watt reciever better than 100 watt?

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; AOL 4.0; Windows 95):

A dealer is telling me that a 60 watt DD Marantz($600) is better quality and will give me better sound then a 100 watt Yamaha DD ($400) that is cheaper. Is there that much differce in the sound or is he blowing smoke?
