for what it's worth, the guy i do business with would rather see me buy the marantz than the onkyo units. incidentally, he loves onkyo, praising their flag, the 939 and sold me my onkyo pro logic unit while carrying marantz. he believes the marantz is of even better quality, and while i haven't done a side by side on say the onkyo 747 and marantz 685 d.d. units i wouldn't dispute him because i trust him. he did try to push mb quarts on me when i bought my infinity ref. series speakers, but finally let me go when i told him price was partly the limiter, while i felt the quarts were just pinch too bright in the highs (and i'm a treble person!)

yamaha also makes good units- let your ears make the final decision. good luck-
