dipole speakers for dolby digital

However, many older dipole models roll off above 6-12 kHz per THX Pro-Logic specs, which makes them a poor choice for 5.1 which specifies full hi freq extension. Unfortunately, the NHT HDP-1s are a Pro-Logic design and you will lose the top octave (the HDP-2s replaced them for this reason). This may invalidate your question about switching polarity, but in any case, yes, changing the polarity of one driver will change them to bipolar--but be sure to switch the correct driver. Dipoles are specific as to left and right speaker--make sure you've got them oriented correctly and then reverse the REAR driver to maintain the proper phase relationship with your front speakers. All that being said, I don't really know why you'd want to do this. Bipoles are a little easier to place than dipoles, but by giving up the dipole "null" from the out-of-phase drivers you are losing a lot of the diffuse ambient sound that dipoles give you. In that case, why not just use monopoles instead? Good luck,
