Indeed, which is why I'm surprised you're having a problem applying the theory to the example discussed here. Let's start from the top. : Yes, that will lead to 3dB increase...but doubling BOTH the amp and driver will lead to a 6dB(potential) increase... If, for example, we take a single sub-woofer powered by a 50watt amplifier, for a given input at a set frequency that sub-woofer may produce 80dB. If we then double the amplifier power of that sub-woofer, the same input (theoretically) will give us 83dB. Something we both agree upon. Then, we add a second identical sub-woofer to the room. We have not changed the amplifier power of the first and it produces the same SPL with a given signal as it did before. The second identical sub-woofer also produces the same SPL. In no way have we doubled our amplifier power, both are still powered by 50watts, we have only doubled our acoustical power which, as I have stated before will increase by 3dB with the presence of the additional driver. If we had doubled amplifier power as you mistakenly suggest, each of our example sub-woofers would produce 83dB with a given input which when combined would give a total increase (supply power and acoustical power) of 6dB. Can you now see the flaw in your theory as applied in this thread? If one adds a second identical powered sub-woofer to a room, the theoretical SPL increase is 3dB.
