:::If, for example, we take a single sub-woofer powered by a 50watt amplifier, for a given input at a set frequency that sub-woofer may produce 80dB. If we then double the amplifier power of that sub-woofer, the same input (theoretically) will give us 83dB. Something we both agree upon.:::

yes.

:::Then, we add a second identical sub-woofer to the room. We have not changed the amplifier power of the first and it produces the same SPL with a given signal as it did before. The second identical sub-woofer also produces the same SPL.:::

You mean we add a second 50w unit that can hit 80dB on it's own.(which would be an identical unit to the first example)...correct?

:::In no way have we doubled our amplifier power, both are still powered by 50watts,:::

No,no,NO!

If we ADD a second POWERED subwoofer, we are DOUBLING the amp power being used to reprodcue the bass!

Using the titan example...

1 titan = 250w(?) and 1 12" driver.

2 titans = 500w and 2 12" drivers

DOUBLE the driver AND double the amp power!

this equals 6dB!

:::... we have only doubled our acoustical power which, as I have stated before will increase by 3dB with the presence of the additional driver....:::

that would ONLY be true, if total AMPLIFIER power remains static....it DOESN"T! For every titan you add, amp power(from the new titan) is COMBINED with the original amp power.

>>>If we had doubled amplifier power as you mistakenly suggest, each of our example sub-woofers would produce 83dB with a given input which when combined would give a total increase (supply power and acoustical power) of 6dB.<<<

How in the WORLD can we be adding POWERED subwoofers(titans) and NOT be adding to the total amplifier power???

>>>Can you now see the flaw in your theory as applied in this thread? If one adds a second identical powered sub-woofer to a room, the theoretical SPL increase is 3dB.<<<

Stuart, I suggest you contact ANY reputable subwoofer manufacturer(I'd think even MIKED from ACI would have to agree with me here).....email TOM NOUSAINE,email DON KEELE.....ask SOMEBODY,ask ANYBODY who knows the basic acoustical energy *rules of thumb*...and I think you'll understand that whenever you add an identical POWERED subwoofer...you're also doubling total amp power.

Stuart, do you own ANY speaker modeling software? If so..it would be easy for you to *model* this and see I am correct.

I cannot belive how much time we've wasted on this topic!
