Folks, Please help with this dilemma!!!.. The subwoofer is hooked to my receiver thru a line level output. The subwoofer directions say to use the "external xover input" on the subwoofer. This by-passes the subwoofer's low pass xover & level control; therefore all these functions are supposed to be handled by the a/v receiver [Onkyo tx ds-747]. When I go into the receiver's main menu to balance all 5 speakers & the subwoofer with the Radio Shack SPL meter & the receiver's own "pink" noise everything is copacetic until I scroll to the subwoofer. I get thump, thump, thump & the Radio Shack SPL meter goes off the scale. The other speakers balance within a 1/2 decibel with the receiver's pink noise, with the Radio Shack SPL meter & also with the instructions from the 1st part of Video Essentials!!!! Where do I set the subwoofer?????; I have between -12dB & +12dB to play with. The Onkyo manual states nothing except to say yes/no if I am using a subwoofer. I'm lost; anyone with any ideas. The subwoofer is by "Energy" ES-8. I realize that the crossover is supposed to be set @ 80Hz to begin with but that's impossible to do since the subwoofer's own functions are by-passed with the hook-up that's in the subwoofer manual. I know whoever reads this will think I've lost it but this is the only explanation I can relate!!!!!!!????!!!. Thanks for any "anything" Bob Walters
