Sometimes we need to ignore the instruction and live on the edge! This is one of those times.

Go ahead and connect your subwoofer feed to the line level input on the subwoofer and use the level control as needed. While you would expect to run the crossover (or low-pass) setting full-up, again do not be reluctant to adjust it a bit if you have a bit of trouble "hiding" the sub.

This is supposed to be fun... no wonder so many of us don't read the manuals :)
