:With this entirely high-level configuration, aren't you wasting the two amp channels since its not powering the sub? And you're powering the tripoles with the Pinnacle amp, which is also huffing and puffing to drive the woofer driver.

Philip,

I have not asked Pinnacle about the situation you mentioned above, but Velodyne gave me info which states that power from an ammplifier is sent through high-level (speaker-level) inputs and transfered without dilution to the side speakers through the sub's high-level outputs. As I interpret Velodyne's reply, the amp is driving the sides, not the subwoofer. I contacted Velodyne because I have a FSR 12 and had considered adding another for the two side subs. But they're too big for my cramped side spaces.

Here's my query to Curt Chisholm, a Velodyne engineer:
Curt: Got a question about using the speaker-level connections on my FSR-12 subwoofer. When making a connection via the speaker-level inputs is the signal processed through the onboard subwoofer crossover, sending the low frequencies (say below 100 Hz) to the subwoofer and 100 Hz and above to a connected surround speaker? When the signal comes into the subwoofer it is an amplified signal (about 110 watts) sent through the amp's outputs. And as such, will the amplification be passed along to the surround speaker? thanks,Don Coleman

(Here's Curt's reply:)
Yes to all the above. The signal come
in and goes thru the X'over, and full power, filtered @ 80 or 100 HZ is sent on to your speakers. The frequencies sent to the sub are determined by the adjustable low-pass (40-120 HZ). Thanks, Curt@Velodyne.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) think I'll call both the Pinnacle tech guy and Curt at Velodyne to make sure I've got the whole thing straight. I sure don't want a situation where I'm using the sub amp to drive both the sides AND the sub.

Thanks for your caution so that I'll research the matter thoroughly before making the wrong moves,
Don
