Subwoofer shielded-cable runs

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

I have some questions re subwoofer connections. Saw some comments on this subject on Forum 3.

1. Can long RCA shielded-cable runs be successfully run to the low line-level inputs of a subwoofer? By long, I mean 40 to 50 feet.

2. Will such a length introduce interference or otherwise degrade the LF signal? The sub's LFs will be below 80 Hz.

3. Is quality of the cable a factor to be considered?

I have been an LP, hifi, stereo, 5.1 and now a 7.1 MC-1 fan who frankly is in over his head in trying to add two side subs in addition to LFE. Would appreciate some expert opinions.
