Speaker-level vs Line-level sub connections??????

Don I hope this information will help you. This only applies to Velodyne subwoofers; other subs may work in a similar way.

On Velodyne subwoofers, Line and speaker level inputs are before the amplifier stage. All input / output are pass through design. They do filter the signal for a cross over point (80 to 100Hz) depending on the model and settings. All signals below this point is sent to the next stage in the subwoofer and all signals above this point is passed through to the next device. Could be your speakers or an amplifier depending on what method you are using. The amplifier in the subwoofer only drives the speaker mounted in the cabinet. It does not have any outputs to any other devices.

In the case you have outlined for your system. If you run a speaker level input to the subwoofers, the subwoofer will work as you crossover. The amplifier that you are using will be powering the side speakers.
The subwoofers will use the built in amps.
