Your poor sub performance is most probably caused by the way you have or have not set the bass management on your Kenwood. The Bose Acoustimass Module is NOT suppose to replace the function of a proper sub and I am glad that you are using a separate sub. The AM Module goes down to about 50Hz at which it rolls off quite sharply. Now this is where the bass management come into play. As I am not familiar with the KC-X1's bass management features, I can only generalise. If you do not have variable crossover setting/channel then you do not have an ideal way of setting up the AM-10 and your sub for stereo listening. You must also have the facility to send the bass signal, should be below 50Hz if crossover is adjustible, from the main channels to the LFE channel whilst maintaining the large setting. If you do not have this the above feature, then the only way that the sub will see a signal is when your main speaker size is set to small. I do not like to use this setting for music because I find matching of the sub to the main channel not ideal.
