Have you checked out the Magnepan's? Personally I think the soundstage is awesome and since they are dipoles, when you move around (front or back of speaker) you don't lose the detail. Also they definitely will keep you in line with your budget as they are a great speaker for the cost. The 1.6 QR's are $1475US a pair and they are running a promotion of the MMG's for $500 a pair, with 60 day in home trial. I am going to use these as the rear surrounds. I too was skeptical going in, but after numerous listening tests with a wide range of material, I was sold.
