URGENT-HOW TO AUDITION A SUB

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 95):

Need some quick info, I'm really short on time, my wife is now expecting, the funds i've been saving now seem to be less important than before. Also the prospect of saving in the future will now be impossible.
Soo, I need a sub bad, looking for something to fill the hole in my system, with the funds i've got saved. 4-500$ Leaves me with nht sub one, jbl, velodine (from circut city?)

Just dawned on me I really dont know how to audition one. Help me out here fellas, what do you look for? how do you test it in store? any favored models in the lower price ranges?

let me know asap. time seems REAL short for this toy.
