limiting factor in VR960 powered sub
Posted by Ed Bielawa [IP: 207.78.105.2] on October 27, 1999 at 12:04:03 I have a pair of Boston Acoustics VR 960s with a built-in 75-watt sub. They're hooked up to the speaker level main outs on my 65-watt H/K receiver. Does the 75-watt sub amplify the already amplified signal coming from the receiver? If so, is some of the receiver's amplifier power wasted? If I upgrade to a higher capacity receiver with 100+ watts per channel, will that provide more power over the entire frequency spectrum, or will my bass be limited by the 75-watt amplifier in the sub? The recommended amp power for these speakers is 15-200 watts. I'm not really sure which amp (the receiver or the sub) is actually powering the sub, and which amp is the limiting factor for the sub. Any comments on how built-in subs interact with receiver-amps would be greatly appreciated. Ed
