Sounds to me like you just might have the volume on your sub set a little bit too high. "Subwoofer Placement & Calibration" written by Stuart is on this site. I spent about an hour yesterday with a test CD and my Rat Shack SPL meter setting (lowering) the output of my sub and was suprised how much more musical my system now sounds. Sure, I'll probably increase it a little to impress "newbies" but I've marked the volume control so I can always return it to where it really should be. I normally run two identical subs but one of them is in the shop which is what prompted me to do some calibration. There's alot of great information on this site thanks to the uncompensated Stuart & Company.
