Hiss from a Velodyne Sub

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT):

I have a Velodyne FSR-15 sub. When the sub is turned on and is not receiving a signal from the source (ie. the receiver is off) you can hear a hiss coming from the speaker. The volume has no effect on the hiss. It doesn't interfere with the performance but was wondering if this is normal behavior for Velodyne subs or any other sub? Seems a sub such as this shouldn't exhibit any hiss in the speaker.
