Ummmm.... Don't buy a crappy home theater in a box type of thing. If you do, don't ever go into a store and demo anything else, even Bose. I would suggest just saving up a bit longer. Then go for the energy take 5 system. ($500, 4 matching speakers and a center channel, + a sub. www.shop4.com) Then get yourself a Denon avr1400. (Can be had for $250 if you don't mind bidding for it. Try ubid.com or bid.com) Some may argue about the receiver. You should also demo Yamaha and Harmon/Kardon in the same price range.

Take it from someone who bought an RCA 'home theater in a box.' They are weak. Spend a little extra $$ and you will be much happier. The Take 5's are great for movies and music, are small, look damn good, and have a good small sub. The Denon sounds slightly better for music than movies, which is why I got it over the Yamaha. It is also dobly digital ready, which leaves you with an upgrade path.

Anyway, just my opinion. Demo this stuff and compare it against ANY home theater in a box type of setup. If you listen to the take 5's first, you will either laugh or cry when you hear the crappy rca/sony/whatever offering.
