Subwoofer location/settings

Posted by Chris [IP: 207.154.179.45] on February 27, 1999 at 18:28:30
Using Mozilla/4.03 [en] (Win95; I ;Nav):

I have 5 NHT Superones as my main, center and rear channels. I also have a NHT SW2Pi powered subwoofer. All of these are connected to my HK AVR 55 which has a "sub out."

Currently, I have my sub amp connected to HK AVR sub out via a line level interconnect (about 30 ft long due to room constraints). The sub amp is connected to the sub by a short speaker cable. I have set the main speakers as "small" and the cross-over setting of the sub at 100 Hz. The NHT Superones can go as low as 67 Hz.

Q 1: Is the current set up (line level connection) the best way to connect the sub which is used for music (60%) and HT (40%)?

Q 2: Does the length of the line level cable to the sub amp (30 ft) affect the performance of the sub? This cable is running parallel to speaker wires for the rear channel by the way.

Q 3: Was I wrong to set the main speakers as "small"? The HK AVR cross-overs at 100 Hz if the mains are set as "small".

Thanks for the info.
