dual voice coil amplification question

Posted by Fernando Batlle [IP: 12.77.225.130] on February 28, 1999 at 06:33:20
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

I am planning a subwoofer application with a dual voice coil speaker.

Is a dual voice coil supposed to be driven by two separate amplifiers? If so, are the two signals obtained simply by splitting with a Y connector? What are the benefits of dual voice coil speakers?

Other than the changes in impedance, what would be the difference in performance between bridging the two amps and connecting the two voice coils in parallel as compared to connecting each voice coil to a separate amp?

Can someone shed some light for my information?
