Def Tech ProTower 400 vs Paradigm Monitor 70P/90P

Using Mozilla/4.05 [en] (Win95; I):

I'm currently looking for a good tower speaker system for home theater and music in the $1,100 to $ 1,500 pair range. I'm hoping to build a system that is balanced for both movies and music... any advice for my price range? I'll be adding the center and surrounds later due to my budget.

Has anyone had a chance to compare Definitive Tech's new Pro Tower 400's with the new Paradigm Monitor 70P or 90P? I'm interested in your impressions of the quality of bass output ie... tightness, clarity, muddiness etc. Did you use an X series sub control unit? I would guess that the Paradigms are a little looser and deeper due to their ported design.

As well, would you please explain the qualities of the mid to upper range of the speakers ie... which reproduced voices more naturally, is one overly harsh, how well do they blend with the integrated subs and center channel? And overall, which one has a better soundstage. If possible could you please include what receiver or separates you tested them on.

I'm also curious as to whether the 90P's sub overpowers its mid/upper drivers... each tower has two 8 inch woofs and an 140watt integrated amp with one 6.5 inch midrange driver. My nearest Paradigm dealer is quite a ways a way so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PS... Any advice on good listening material to audition these speakers with
would be very helpful. Thanks
