Does the DC-1 convert analog inputs into digital?

Does the analog signal get converted into digital and back into analog again even for simple modes like stereo or bypass? If so, I guess I wont be able to listen to some of the 24/96 DVD Audio discs thru the DC-1 (or Meridian) because of the A/D conversion for analog inputs.
