Hi Dave,

Robert raises some very good questions. In what ways are you dissatisfied with your DC-1? What do you like about it?

Where are your priorities--home theater? music? stereo or multichannel?

If you've lived with the DC-1, you know how you feel about its performance.

For me, the DC-1's strongest features are Logic 7 for stereo surround on two-channel and Pro-Logic software, support for 7-channel operation, and all of Lexicon's music effects. If you like these features, you won't find any of them on the AVP.

If you have a vinyl collection and high-end turntable, the AVP's analog pass-through is an advantage for two-channel listening. For CDs and digital sources, though, you'll need to listen for yourself and compare. People have raised concerns about Proceed using lower quality DACs for other channels than for L-R fronts--this might not be an issue for surrounds unless multi-channel music is a priority, but it's more of an issue for the center channel, which bears the brunt of movie sound.

The AVP is more solidly built. Looks may or may not be an issue (personally, I'm not fond of the "Forbidden Planet"-era tech look of the Proceed gear, but it's all a matter of taste.

Also compare interfaces and menu navigation. The AVP is easier to upgrade, but Lexicon is till committed to upgrading the DC-1, and it's not like you're upgrading either one that frequently.

If you're not in a rush, I'd wait for the new year to see what Lexicon has in the works...remember their trade-in policies have been extremely generous.

You might use the time til then to do a total system assessment along the lines Robert suggested.

Good luck!
Philip
