The extra capacity isn't utilized, and 24/96 formats are not supported. Huh! News to me! Although we only see a maximum of 20 bits currently (AC-3 and DTS), we aren't limited to that. In fact the EQ and crossovers (which involve a fair bit of math) are done double precision and are output as 24 bits. Which of course the new convertors are happy to process as 24 bits. Pretty small sonic difference, one that may give one a hint of the small incremental performance boost a 24 bit delivery system will yield.
