The extra capacity isn't utilized, and 24/96 formats are not supported.

News to me! : Although we only see a maximum of 20 bits currently (AC-3 and DTS), we aren't limited to that. : In fact the EQ and crossovers (which involve a fair bit of math) are done double precision and are output as 24 bits. Which of course the new convertors are happy to process as 24 bits. : Pretty small sonic difference, one that may give one a hint of the small incremental performance boost a 24 bit delivery system will yield.
