I think that insert is just an extension of DTS' marketing strategy. Having the ability to carry 5 full-range and 1 low-freg channels means simply that: that it is possible, but not necessarily done by the mastering engineers.

For instance, while I agree with you on the situation with the Big Picture, on several other DTS CD's like SD's Gaucho and Alan Parsons' On Air, I get a good center level; however, on these CD's, would it make much sense having a full-range signal, since the center carries primarily vocals or centrally located instruments and the surrounds carry audience sounds etc.?

But I agree with you on the Big Picture. A good recording done bad in DTS. F-16's should stress every channel!
