In other words, you should have full-range channels because some software makes use of them. As you've found, much of the DTS catalogue, most of which is a rag-tag collection of multi-channel recordings of old wasn't recorded or mixed with five full-range channels in mind at all. As I mentioned to Daniel, the 'Big Picture' was intended for a matrix 5:2:5 format and of course the old quad stuff was only intended for four channel reproduction (no centre, no LFE). DTS just apply the same statement to many of their discs (Brad Miller's label being particularly guilty), because… well… they know no better.
