AC-3 add-on for Lexicon DC-1 Posted by Andrew Krieg [IP: 169.207.135.158] on November 20, 1998 at 16:45:35: I recently bought a floor model DC-1 unit from a local dealer. It was advertised as a version with THX and AC-3 addons. List price was given as $4500. With it, came 3 manuals. One is "DC-1 Digital Controller: Base, THX and Dolby Digital Versions". Another is "DC-1 Digital Controller: Dolby Digital AC-3 V2.00 and DTS Options". I am now wondering if I really got the AC-3 add-on. When I power on the unit it shows V1.00, not V2.00. Also, the menus on my unit all match what is in the first manual I listed above. The second manual (AC-3 and DTS), for example, shows 10 options for the V-Disc input (Gain, Name, PCM FX, AC-3 FX, DTS FX, FX Format, Audio In, Video In, Rec/Zone2 and Trigger). My unit's menu only displays the 8 items listed in the second first manual (Gain, Name, Effect, AC-3 FX, Digital, Video, Rex/Zon and Trigger). I have played AC-3 encoded Laser Discs (I have the LDD-1) and DVDs and hear the 5 separate audio channels. But I don't have any AC-3 specific menus as shown in the second manual. Does a base unit with only THX play AC-3 discs? If so, what does the AC-3 add-on give you beyond that? Does the second manual only come with the AC-3 add-on, or does it come with the base unit as well? I'm really confused as to whether or not I got everything I paid for.
