Record/Zone2 output (video) problem

Hi
I recently connected the zone2 output of my DC-1 to a VCR (via composite) to record programs I borrow from friends (Barney, Power Rangers etc.). I find that off DVD's, I get this problem of the video output fading in and out (like seomone turning the brightness/colour up/down slowly).

I find I get the problem on DVD's most of all. Off LD's and Video CD's, I don't get the problem. I use a 909. It's S-Video connected to the DC-1. The problem also doesn't appear via the main monitor outputs (to my TV).

Anyone any ideas?
