Record/Zone2 output (video) problem Posted by Philip Brandes [IP: 152.163.195.178] on November 25, 1998 at 10:49:25: In Reply to: Record/Zone2 output (video) problem posted by Long Chee Teck Daniel on November 25, 1998 at 06:36:33: Do not attempt to adjust the picture--there is nothing wrong with your television set (or your DC-1). Welcome to the wacky world of Macrovision. This is the anti-pirating protection system mandated by the movie studios to prevent exactly what you're trying to do. It works by slightly destabilizing the video signal so it looks okay (usually) on a tv but on a VCR it exhibits exactly the kind of problems you're noticing. You'll find the same thing if you bypass the DC-1 altogether and try to record directly from VCR or DVD outs. Most, but not all, prerecorded VHS tapes have this feature (depends on whether the tape manufacturer paid the Macrovision fee). All DVDs have it. There are "video stabilizer" boxes you can buy that defeat the macrovision on VHS tapes, but these won't work against the additional anti-copying techniques such as colorstriping developed for DVDs. Sorry--but realize that what you're trying to do is a copyright violation and the studios want to all the revenue they're entitiled to. Regards,
