To each his own opinion, I guess, but I don't see how you can say Meridian is pricing itself out of the market. The 561 is right in there on price and features, IMHO. Their 2-channel CD players and transports are also very competitive. You might as well say the same about Tannoy; at least more people are probably buying Meridian 861's and their big powered speakers than Tannoy Churchills. Most of these companies have a very high end. And another thing ...you just don't seem to give those Brits their intellectual due. They came up with MLP, after all, while the Asians and Americans were squabbling. It will be critical to the success of DVD-Audio (which may or may not succeed anyway). Give those guys a little credit.

In the interest of full disclosure, I own Meridian and have found their support fine. I have gotten prompt and detailed replies and answers via email several times, and my dealer has been fine. My opinion would probably differ if I had a bad experience...

Well, no point in arguing. Sorry for the long post. Plenty of crappy, unstable, unsupported audio companies to go around, no matter where you look. I just thought you were painting too broad a brush.
