Joel,

About giving the likes of Meridian credit regarding the development of new technologies, I can't possibly argue with that, in fact in my first message I wrote "Although the industry brain-pool is predominantly English, the cutting edge manufacturers are either American or Far Eastern."

My experiences with English companies and products this year have been (thinks) all bad. To give you a few examples… Warfedale sub-woofers which are clearly defective (even review samples); Tsunami (REL) sub-woofers which are so bad the entire first batch has been scrapped; Townshend products which arrive in need of hosing down; Celestion loudspeakers which are overpriced, poorly constructed and poor in terms of performance; Philips DVD player (developed in the south somewhere) which is the worst on the market today…

Oh! I was wrong, I had a Mission sub-woofer I liked, but you get the idea.

Now let's compare this to some of the overseas samples I've received. M&K sub-woofers which arrive in pristine condition, loaded with features and offer a very high level of performance; NHT loudspeakers (SuperTwos) which are beautifully finished and are superb sounding but for such a modest price; ACI Sapphires which set a new standard of performance (again modestly priced)… and the list goes on.

: You might as well say the same about Tannoy; at least more people are probably buying Meridian 861's and their big powered speakers than Tannoy Churchills.

Umm… I'm not so sure. I doubt many people have an 861 let alone the complete system but nevertheless it is available the world over. The Chruchills are only available in North America (no idea why) as are other models in the range such as the M4s.

I didn't mean to single out anyone in my original message - particularly Meridian even though my experiences with them were not good - just illustrate the point. I hope this message makes things a little clearer. Sorry 'bout that.

Stuart.
