Mark,

Insist that your dealer get you a new eprom and install it for you, or do it yourself.

Putting the chip in backwards turns on all the junctions and input protection circuitry when power is applied and all available current from the power supply goes through them. Given enough current it can fry the input protection devices or make them leaky and could also result in the eprom forgeting data or dying in the near future. With enough current it can also vaporize traces on the printed circuit board or blow the internal IC bond wires.

Also inform the dealer he is on the hook for all future problems with the unit.
