Thanks for your comments.

Your first point is probably the main reason I sold away my first HDCD (the MF X-DAC) and relied solely on the DC-1's DAC's. I've not felt the need to do different since I feel the DC-1 was significantly better than the X-DAC (IMO) than the HDCD it gave me.
Does anyone sell a passive vol. controller/switcher like U describe? I can't imagine myself building it nor would I have much luck finding parts for it here in Sunny Singapore.

Yes, you are right about calibration but I've heard of some British gear that have a unity gain switch which does what you describe (i.e. set the gain to unity or some set level). Can't remember if it was an Audiolab or Arcam...
Will certainly check out the Adcom.

Thing is, I have in excess of 50 HDCD CD's and having had the X-DAC and hearing the diff. between that (a budget HDCD converter) and Pioneer's Legato Link conversion, think it may be worth a try.

I've also noticed a great number of new pop and soundtrack releases being in HDCD (alongside the usual audiophile stuff). I've bought Christopher Cross, Dire Straits, The Bee Gees, John Mellencamp, Chris Isaak just to name a few. Seems HDCD is catching on big time! Anyone else notice different? Philip?

Daniel
