: What do you say regarding a well-known critic’s comments posted on the home-theater groups :that the 24bit DACs do nothing at all because the rest of the signal path is not up to the job?

Haven’t seen the comments (I find most of the newsgroups to full of misinformation and egos run amuck to read) so I can’t really comment on it directly. We’re not making a big deal out of it, because the reality of it is there aren’t sources which can deliver 24 bits to begin with.
There is 24 bit precision in some of the processing (for example the EQ & crossovers are all double precision, 24 bit) so there is some advantage. Most folks who inquire, are told the upgrade is available, but we’re not really pushing it.
Perhaps some of the critics are the same ones complaininging about the “inability to upgrade the DC-1 DAC’s” a few months ago. Now, proven incorrect, there must be another tact to take to keep criticizing… Can’t please all of the people all of the time.

:I have no idea myself and I’m happy with my DC-1 how it is, but his comments that the DAC :upgrade does nothing but make the numbers on paper look better were disturbing - any :company that does business with me should do so honestly....

Again, I can’t answer the specifics not having seen the original, but I’m missing what we’re doing that is dishonest or even should be found disturbing. Hey, there’s companies out there trumpeting 24/96 DVD Audio compatibility with 20 bit DACs. And “free upgrades forever”. And worse.
We’ve made am improvement, quietly implemented it (months before we even announced it) not charged a penny more for it and somehow are seen as disingenuous.
