Hi Philip,

Thanks for your help. I systematically removed connections to the Lexicon until only the 5 outputs to the amps remained. The hiss never went away.

One additional piece of information: When I switch the DC-1 to my DVD or LaserDisc players with no signal (i.e. they are turned off), the DC-1 performs a "System Mute". When muting, the hiss is gone, and the speakers sound like normal. I don't know what the mute by-passes, but that appears to be the culprit. If I switch back to a VCR or TV source, or if I have the DVD or LD on, the hiss comes back.

I contacted Tech Support at Lexicon and they said confirmed that there should be no hiss as I described. They recommended service, but weren't sure what the problem could be.

P.S. They also convinced me to wait until January to perform my firmware upgrade.
