It may very well be a problem with your DC-1, but ground loops are tricky and you haven't completely ruled it out by unplugging the inputs--the hiss may be generated through your electrical system.

I speak from experience here. Specifically try unplugging your cable tv hookup to your tv and see if that makes a difference. It did in my case.

BTW, I do agree with Lexicon that you're better off doing the upgrade in Jan--that way you'll get the very latest software.
