DTS demo DVD dropouts?

The problem is very likely the Toshiba, which as Baxter points out has a track record of audio dropouts (Stuart mentions this in the AC-3 Dropout thread below too).

Also, there were several iterations of the DTS demo disks because some had problems.

However, another possibility could depend on when your friend's DC-1 was manufactured. There is a software update (version 2.10) that fixed some dropout problems with some DC-1s after Lexicon switched to the replacement DACs in April.

If your friend is running software version 2.01 (the OSD will show the version at power-up), he might need the upgrade (which is free I believe). Suggest to him to call Lexicon with his serial number and they'll tell him if he needs it for sure and send out the update chip.
