A unit such as the Lexicon with 24 bits, if used as the main pre-amp for a system and as the primary dac for cds, would benefit from inserting the 518 between the cd transport and the Lexicon.

The 518 can be configured (and usually is) to work only as a resolution-enhancer (i.e. increasing word size to the largest supported by the dac as well as increasing the amount of gain used in recording the cd in the first place)) and a de-jitter box (at which it works extremely well).

I set it up as a digital pre-amp, but I suspect that since the lexicon already has high quality analogue volume control, the 518 might have a marked positive effect on the quality of cd sound, increasing depth of image and transparency.

I don't think it would work very well, however, with video sources. I'm not sure it would pass on the digital coding properly.
