Nasty Hiss Posted by SMR [WizOp] [IP: 195.232.125.114] on December 01, 1998 at 14:39:30: In Reply to: Nasty Hiss posted by Andrew Krieg on December 01, 1998 at 10:07:06: Andrew, : Klipsch speakers all around (Khorns in front, Cornwalls on the side, KLF-C7 for the center), 2 McIntosh MC7300 and 2 NAD 2200 amps. Ah ha! Klipsh. Just as I thought. Those Klipshorns are like my Tannoy (although not as good [g]), too darn sensitive, about 104dB @ 1watt/metre if memory serves and they're revealing the DC-1s S/N ratio… one of the reasons you bought them. The way to eliminate the hiss is to attenuate the outputs of the DC-1 with little in-line attenuators from David Hadaway's dB Systems. By physically dropping the output levels of the DC-1 by approximately 10dB and increasing the output levels in the system set-up menu by the same amount, you'll get a much higher S/N ratio and you'll no longer hear the hiss from the Klipsh. Call or fax David (tel: 603-899-5121 fax: 603-899-6415) and tell him what you need and that I sent you.
