In general with audio gear it's advisable to send the hottest signal you can into an amp. When you turn up the gain on your sub, you are amplifying noise as well as signal. By sending a nice hot signal to your sub, you minimize the amount you need to turn up the sub.

I agree with others though that you should leave yourself a bit of room to adjust the sub output level a bit each way for flexibility.
