NHT speakers and DC-1

Posted by Dylan [IP: 206.71.99.198] on December 22, 1998 at 22:54:57:

Space constraints finally forced me to put my beloved Maggie MG3a's into storage and get bookshelf speakers. As much as I love my Maggies, they never really fit in my narrow room either sonically or physically. They'll just have to wait until I move into a new house. *sigh*

My new front trio are NHT 1.5's and AC-1. I'm surprised how much I like these speakers. Though a step down in overall sound quality, they do some things well that the big Maggies just never could in my room. An added bonus is that I finally get to use a center channel. I never could find a center that matched well with the Maggies and because they took up so much space I was forced to use the top of my TV as a makeshift component rack (don't ask, it was a mess).

Anyway, to the point... I currently have MG10's as side speakers and SS1's as surrounds. The MG10's are great surround speakers and I'd like to keep using them. But I've never liked the SS1's and now I want a speaker that sounds better and has more bass output. My current thinking is that I'll stick with NHT's because I don't want more of a hodgepodge speaker setup than I already have. So what's my best choice? I think monopoles are probably best for the rears so that leaves me with the choice of another pair of 1.5's or SuperOnes. Obviously, the 1.5's will be a perfect match with my fronts. But I'd like to save some money if I can (of course) so I'm wondering how well the SuperOnes would do.

Any NHT owners care to comment?
