NHT speakers and DC-1 Posted by Philip Brandes [IP: 205.188.193.167] on December 23, 1998 at 11:44:39: In Reply to: NHT speakers and DC-1 posted by Tommy on December 23, 1998 at 07:32:02: : I listened to Von Schweikert TS-210, but I felt them quite dark in dipole mode (no side tweeters). Direct mode was very good with highs and mids. HDP-2 has tweeters in dipole mode, but can it be better than TS-210 ? - are highs needed in side dipole mode ? The VSR side (dipole) drivers have full high frequency extension, just like the NHTs. Dipole designs inherently roll off the highs somewhat because of the null, and will sound relatively "dark"--however, the added sense of spaciousness and diffusion make for a more enveloping surround effect that wraps the soundfield farther to the front and rear. Everything's a trade-off.
