DC-1 and A/V Switching Posted by Larry Roberts [IP: 209.86.45.118] on December 25, 1998 at 20:37:58: My DC-1 will arrive next week, and I'm trying to think through how best to set it up. I would like to do ALL my A/V switching through a single source so as not to have to change outputs on the DC-1 AND have to change inputs on the monitor (too complicated for other family members). Logically it seems like my options are: (1) do all A/V switching through the DC-1; (2) do all A/V switching through the monitor; or (3) if 1 or 2 are not practical, do a combination of switching at both the monitor and the DC-1. Since option (2) would make it impossible to use the digital audio output of my DVD player (and make on-screen display of the DC-1 impossible), option (1) appears the more promising. My problem is how to watch cable TV. My monitor has a composite video out, which I could run through the DC-1 and back into a video input of the monitor. I could thus select "TV" through the DC-1 the same as I select any other source. The problem is that I want to use the S-video signal out of my DVD, but since the TV tuner is a composite video signal, I think it would have to be input back into the monitor as a composite signal unless I use an external comb filter. So if I'm to use the S-vid from the DVD, now I'm back to having to do video switching at both the DC-1 and the monitor. So, several questions. First, is my assessment of the situation correct? Second, is there a reasonably priced but good quality comb filter I could pass the composite video signal through so I can input it into the DC-1 as S-video and thereby do all my video switching in the "S-Video" mode? And third, is there an easier way to do all this while maintaining "ease of use"? (I know macros from a programmable remote are an option, but I don't have "direct access" to specific video inputs on my monitor, so macros are problemmatic at best). Thanks for any input. And by the way, I've followed this forum for a few weeks, and it's one reason I decided to go with the Lexicon! Thanks.
