Chris, I don't get this popping noise, but if you also hear it with your Panasonic when performing operations like pause and fast forward, there's one thing you can try.

In the Panansonic setup menu, there's a feature that enables audio playback during search (on my A110, it's in the Other Settings menu. For some bone-headed reason, this defaults to on. If you turn it off, it may help your problem.
