I need help with DC-1 video switching

Hello all!

As the subject suggests, I need help with DC-1 video switching capabilities. Specifically, mixing and matching composite and S-video sources and interaction with my Pioneer Elite PRO-95 television.

I have 4 video sources (LD/DVD/VCR/DSS), each with composite and S-video outputs. Since the DC-1 only has 3 S inputs, I chose to run the LD as a composite since it is not a "true" S source. The other 3 inputs are run to the DC-1 only through S cables. I have both a composite and S cable from the DC-1 output to the VIDEO-1 input of the PRO-95, which will select S video if a signal is present, composite if not. When I do this, I get audio from the LD, but no video. I have verified that I have the correct input selected in the setup. The only way I can get the LD to work is to disconnect the S output cable to the PRO-95 at the DC-1 end. The LD then works, but obviously no other inputs do. Also, my on screen display goes away when I do this.

Frustrated, I decided to run the LD directly to the PRO-95 VIDEO-1 composite input as it is the only non S source. The DC-1 S output is connected to the PRO-95 VIDEO-1 S input. Doing this, I can get LD video on the PRO-95 only when:

1) In SETUP, for the LD input (AUX), I select ANY video input that actually has a device connected.

2) That device that is turned off.

3) I press the AUX button twice. Pressing it repeatedly toggles the image between blue screen and LD video.

Also, when I do this, any time I change the volume the image goes to blue screen and I have to hit AUX again to get the image back.

The above leads me to believe that the DC-1 is outputing an S video signal (maybe blue screen?) even when I have a composite only source selected. This would then cause the PRO-95 to try to use the S input and display the blue screen. Pressing the AUX button twice in the latter configuration somehow disables the S output, and the PRO-95 then grabs the direct LD input coming in on the VIDEO-1 composite input.

What is going on here - I'm missing the big picture (no pun intended!). This should be trivial.

Also, in the process of all this experimentation, I briefly had the on screen display overlaid on top of the video. I have never seen this before - mine has always gone to blue screen when I enter the OSD. Volume control/input changes overlay the image, but the menu doesn't. Anyway - now it is back to "normal" (for me) and I can't find a way to change it. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help, and have a safe and happy new year.
