DTS v. Lexicon question

Posted by Dave Morrison on September 30, 1998 at 22:34:03:

This is my first posting to the Forum, so I apologize for the length. I love my DC1 and recently did the DTS upgrade and I have a couple questions. In the manual, Lexicon states that the current generation of software causes a momentary burst of digital noise whenever the playback is interrupted. So, whenever you a)start, b)pause and restart, or c)scan and release ANY software, you get what I affectionately call the "digital spit". I can't think of anything more annoying than hearing that "spit" sound just before the start of some quiet piece of music. Since this problem is addressed specifically in the manual, I'm guessing this is something that Lexicon can't do anything about. I don't want to dedicate the input to "DTS only" on the setup, either. Also, the lack of audio during scans of DTS CD's is going to be a major stumbling block to the acceptance of this format. However, lack of audio is something of a misnomer...the "whoosh" of white noise that appeared when I scanned a DTS CD came as a big surprise, too.
I guess the question is this: do all DTS decoders handle signal interruptions like the Lexicon? If so, I feel that DTS CD's will suffer an ugly but quick death. Don't get me wrong...the sound is glorious, if you don't interrupt the playback for any reason.
