In what way do the Meridian 561 and Proceed AVP support an "open architecture"? Neither have a card cage. Maybe you're confusing them with the Meridian 861 and Procced PAV/DSD. Those do have a card cage and will supposedly provide a flexible upgrade path and expandability options. They also cost over $9000 each.
