An "open architecture" would be to release specs on how to build cards so that 3rd parties can compete for upgrades. It could also mean releasing development tools so that 3rd parties could develop software as well.

The only thing "open" about these units so far is that you can "open" them with a screw driver.

I think $7k is possible if they did everything right (which would include a touch screen remote and card cage).

If they just did 24/96 and more inputs, RS-232 and crossover/equalizer then yes it would be hard to justify more than $5k.

A lot depends on what they do for trade-in and what the software upgrades are for the DC-1.
