Hold on, it's not quite that good.

Theta CasaNova - Fully loaded is about $5100.00 list. Nicely loaded for around $4100.00

It does not have the best D/A conversion on the market and EVERY preamp does volume in the analog domain. Some use an IC chip and others use descrete class a preamps and a resistor network for attenuation.

The "superior" DAC board in the theta casablanca does the descrete thing. The "Standard" DAC board does the IC chip (the difference is not just the DAC). The Casanova does what a "Standard" Casablanca DAC board does. It's also what Lexicon and Meridian and many others do.

Bits is not everything when it comes to DACs. Some DACs do all the filtering on the chip, some do it off chip with higher grade components and circuits. Burr Brown has several levels of DACs at different bit width and speeds. The DACs in the CasaNova are capable of 24/96 but they are not the top grade DACs (they are the 1716's [recommended for DVD players and up]).

The Proceed AVP is a hybrid (and much like a Theta Casablanca with superior in front and standard in the back).

Classe and EAD Signature do "superior" all the way around (but not at 24/96). Each of these units are $6500.00 list. PAV/PDSD is "superior" all the way around as well at $9k. Theta Casablanca configured for superior is over $10k.

I don't think anyone has the "superior" setup with 24/96 yet. The first DAC I know of that will is the Sonic Frontiers DAC-3 (2-channel at $1500.00).

This is all based on spec's and has NOTHING to do with how each system will actually sound to each individual.
