DC-2 "Hope List" Posted by George Mills on October 05, 1998 at 14:53:27: In Reply to: DC-2 posted by Phil Miller on October 05, 1998 at 14:21:34: DC-1 will handle "current" stuff likely for another year or so. But people buying a new $5k preamp are looking for what may be seen for 2-3 years down the road. 2-3 years ago when the DC-1 was released it was AC-3 and DTS and Lexicon provided such upgrades. Today it's "DVD Audio", Card cages [partly because people know DVD Audio is not fully defined yet and know things keep changing], HDTV and some features the DC-1 always lacked which was more inputs (S and Digital). You have to look at it from the point of view of a new buyer not an existing owner. $5K is still a lot of money for a HT preamp and new customers are looking for the company with the best answers in terms of staying current with technology. The DC-1 does not have a 2-3 year story to tell the competition at $5k does. There are plenty of features the competition is offering at the $5k price point the DC-1 does not have. How relative those features are today is not how a new customer will view his purchase. I think for $5k Lexicon could get away with as little as, mid grade 24/96 DACs, processing power to handle 24/96 through out, more digital inputs, RS-232 updates, increased s-video and digital inputs, a record out digital output and a 5 year warranty.
